I has been almost 3 days from my last post. What has happened, what has not happened! We were detoured into Memphis (unscheduled), finally landing in Atlanta. Once we arrived, we missed the 9:20 flight that took off at 11:20, 40 minutes before we arrived. We did get on the 7:25 flight that had mechanical problems, not sure that was a good thing. We did get off the ground at about 3:00 a.m. e.d.t. But, we did arrive in Johannesburg (or as the locals say, Joeburg) at 1:15 and we were in bed at 2:00 a.m. local time. The next morning we were up and eating a great breakfast at the hotel, it received good reviews for the breakfast, and I agree. Back to the airport for a flight to Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. On a 1 hour and 40 minute flight they served a drink and a hot meal, US airlines have horrible customer service. Once we land, the airport was..........interesting. It was very antiquated, but we made it through immigrations and we were on the way to the hotel. That afternoon we had quite an experience. Sandra, you would have loved the open market, they bartered for everything, they asked Shelly for the socks off here feet (wait! that is a day 2 story, sorry I digress). We went to the open market and were a bit overwhelmed, everyone was trying to sell their wares. They had tourist police to protect us, I had some trepidation, but it really was fairly safe. We purchased some art and had a good time once we figured out what the game was in the market place. This a beautiful country, but with 75 - 80% unemployment, it is tough on its citizens. At the end of the night we had a buffet dinner that was "OK" (Shelly did not like it at all) with African dancers. Then we headed for bed. For day 2 or 3, however you want to count it a little bit later.
